Authorship and Contribution

The Journal of Social Science and Human Research Studies (JSSHRS) is committed to ensuring transparency, fairness, and ethical integrity in authorship attribution. Proper acknowledgement of contributions is essential for maintaining trust in the scholarly record and for giving credit where it is due.

Criteria for Authorship

Authorship should be granted only to individuals who meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial Contribution

    • Significant involvement in the conception, design, data collection, data analysis, or interpretation of the study.

  2. Manuscript Preparation

    • Contribution to drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content.

  3. Final Approval

    • Review and approval of the final version of the manuscript before submission.

  4. Accountability

    • Acceptance of responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the work, including investigating and resolving any issues related to the research.

Individuals who assisted in the research but do not meet all the criteria above—e.g., providing technical support, data assistance, general supervision, or funding—should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section with their consent, rather than being listed as authors.

Author Order and Corresponding Author

  • The sequence of authors should accurately reflect the extent of contribution made by each.

  • Changes in authorship (addition, removal, or reordering) after submission require written agreement from all authors and approval by the editor.

  • One author must be designated as the Corresponding Author, responsible for:

    • Liaising with the journal during submission, peer review, and publication.

    • Ensuring all co-authors are aware of the manuscript status and editorial communications.

    • Ensuring all post-publication correspondence is addressed.

Contribution Transparency

Authors must include a Contributor Role Statement (CRediT taxonomy or equivalent) in the manuscript, detailing each author’s specific role. Example roles include:

  • Conceptualization

  • Methodology

  • Formal analysis

  • Investigation

  • Resources

  • Data curation

  • Writing – original draft

  • Writing – review & editing

  • Visualization

  • Supervision

  • Project administration

  • Funding acquisition

Acknowledgment of Non-Author Contributions

  • Non-author contributors (e.g., technical advisors, proofreaders, translators) should be named in the Acknowledgments section, stating their specific contributions.

  • All funding sources or institutional support must be disclosed.

Authorship Misconduct

JSSHRS prohibits unethical authorship practices, including:

  • Gift/Guest Authorship: Listing individuals who made no significant contribution.

  • Ghost Authorship: Failing to list individuals who made substantial contributions.

  • Misrepresentation of Contribution: Incorrectly describing or inflating contributions.

In cases of authorship disputes or suspected misconduct, JSSHRS will follow COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines, which may involve contacting the authors’ institutions for resolution.

Authors’ Responsibilities

By submitting to JSSHRS, all listed authors agree that:

  • The work is original, accurate, and ethically conducted.

  • All contributions are honestly represented.

  • They will cooperate with any editorial inquiries, corrections, or retractions if required.

A clear and transparent authorship policy ensures credibility, accountability, and proper recognition in all publications of JSSHRS.
