Aims and Scope
JSSHRS — Journal of Social Science and Human Research Studies
The Journal of Social Science and Human Research Studies (JSSHRS) publishes peer-reviewed scholarship across the social sciences and humanities. We are interested in research that takes seriously the complexity of human social life — research that combines empirical care with theoretical clarity, that is grounded in a recognized methodological tradition, and that contributes something specific to its field.
We publish original research articles, systematic reviews, theoretical contributions, methodological essays, and case studies. We accept work from any methodological tradition: quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, ethnographic, archival, computational, theoretical, and interpretive. We do not privilege one over another, and we do not require statistical significance for acceptance.
The journal's scope covers, but is not limited to:
- Sociology, including social inequality, race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, social movements, and the sociology of work, family, and education
- Anthropology, including cultural, social, and economic anthropology, and ethnographic studies
- Political science, including comparative politics, international relations, political theory, and public policy
- Psychology, including social, cognitive, developmental, and cultural psychology
- History, including social, cultural, intellectual, and economic history
- Philosophy, including ethics, social and political philosophy, and philosophy of social science
- Education, including educational policy, sociology of education, and pedagogical research with a social-science orientation
- Communication studies, media studies, and cultural studies
- Religious studies, including the sociology of religion and comparative religious studies
- Linguistics where the focus is sociolinguistic or anthropological rather than purely formal
We also welcome interdisciplinary work that bridges these fields, and work that engages with contemporary public concerns — migration, inequality, democracy, technology and society, climate change as a social phenomenon, education policy, public health from a social-science angle.
What we do not publish: clinical research, laboratory experiments without a clear social-science framing, formal mathematical work without a social-science application, or articles that are primarily commentary or opinion without a research basis. Book reviews are not currently a standalone category.
JSSHRS is published by EP Journals Group, an open access publisher of six peer-reviewed academic journals. Articles are published under a CC BY 4.0 license, with author copyright retained, and registered with CrossRef.
